My July litter is now a little over five weeks old. Today was tattoo time! I use the EZ Tatt[ooer]. As the name implies, it is quite easy to do as long as the rabbit stays still. I put my young rabbits in a cut-off sleeve from a sweater to keep them secure and still. Then I clean out the left ear with rubbing alcohol and afterwards I numb it with anesthetic numbing spray. This helps the rabbit not feel the pain of the needle. As I tattoo, I also hold an ice cube behind the ear to numb it even more. It's a pretty simple process as long as everything is in place.
Today I named the babies after characters in Les Misérables (a production I was in this summer): Éponine (M3), Grantaire (M4) and Courfeyrac (M6). My system of selecting tattoo numbers/letters for my rabbits so far is the boys get even numbers and the girls odd. And they always get an "M" before the number which represents my rabbitry: Minnesota Minis.
